RESEARCH: MARC RIBOUD PHOTOGRAPH

This photograph was taken by Marc Riboud. In the Photograph we see a woman, holding a flower in clasped hands, she is also wearing a floral patterned dress to match the flower she is presenting to the opposing soldiers. As the soldiers are holding bayonets, clearly being openly hostile towards the woman, the audience is lead to assume the woman is presenting this flower as a token of peace, this flower symbolises peace as its colour, white, is often used as a representation of peace. We can connote that the woman wants a peace in a world rampant with war. Not only is she holding a flower but, as previously mentioned, she is wearing a floral patterned dress, which only emphasises the longing for peace that she clearly so desperately wants. Finally, there is a clear difference in numbers, the soldiers outnumber and would clearly dominate the woman however she is steadfast looking directly at the the soldiers as they bear their arms.
